Sister Kathleen Kajer, 81

Sister Kathleen Kajer (81) passed away on April 11, 2022 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. 

A funeral Mass will be held on April 21, at 10:30 am (EST) 2022 at Our Lady of Calvary Church in Philadelphia. Interment will be at the Sisters of Blessed Sacrament cemetery in Pennsylvania.

            Kathleen was born to Otto and Elsa (Pinney) Kajer of New Prague on January 24, 1941.  She went to St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and graduated from New Prague High School in 1959.  She attended St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul for one year, but the religious life was calling.  After researching various orders, she decided to enter the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament convent located in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. 

            Kathleen received her BA in math and education from the Blessed Sacrament College in 1965 and took her final vows in August of 1968.  She then entered a lifetime of teaching and service in African American and Native American schools.  These included Catholic schools in Washington DC, St. Louis, MO, Lake Charles, LA, and Chicago, IL.  She served as school principal at the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona for 7 years.  She then moved to the St. Michael’s Indian School on the Navaho reservation in Arizona where she was the executive director and president.   In retirement, she went back to teaching at St. Mary’s Mission school in Red Lake, Minnesota.  In 2018, she returned to the Motherhouse in Pennsylvania.  She had the honor of being inducted into the New Prague High School Hall of Fame for Service in 2008.   She loved her New Prague roots and spent many years vacationing at the Kajer farm. 

            Sister Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her brothers Tom (Lisa) Kajer, Staples, Minnesota, Ken (Debra) Kajer, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jerry (Shirley) Kajer, New Prague, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews. 

            Her personal motto was, “That all may be one in Christ Jesus.”
