Trojan softball wins section opener

Betty Rynda drove in two runs, including one on a solo home run, and Mia Kraimer pitched a complete game, giving up only an unearned run, as New Prague defeated Lakeville South 3-1 in the first round of the Section 1AAAA softball tournament Tuesday, May 22, at New Prague. 

Lakeville South threatened in the seventh inning, but the game ended on a double play when a Cougar batter struck out, but the ball was dropped. The catcher threw to first to get one out, then Rynda, playing first base, threw to Maggie Vivant at third to throw out a runner trying to advance. 

New Prague will face Lakeville North at 4 p.m. Thurday at Todd Park in Austin. If they win, the Trojans advance to the third round on Tuesday, May 29. If they lose, they would play an elimination game at 6 p.m. Thursday.
