Volunteers, Chamber staff make things happen

On Saturday morning, a large crowd will gather at Memorial Park in New Prague for the 34th Annual Run New Prague Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids Fun Run.

With hundreds of runners expected to attend, it is important to realize that this event wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for the many people who volunteer their time to help New Prague put on a first-class, quality event.

Early Saturday morning, crews will go out and set signs for the course, set up aid stations and make sure the course is ready for the runners. Others will set up in the park and handle registrations for the race. There will be dozens of helpers making sure that runners know where to go for their races, starters at each of the races and people along the course, helping control traffic and making sure the runners and spectators are safe along the course.

And following the race there will be volunteers handing out refreshments, water and food to refuel the runners after their journey, helping coordinate the awards ceremony, working with paid staff to post results and more.

After all the excitement has finished, others will stay behind and pick up trash, dismantle tables and stands, go back along the course to make sure nothing was left behind and make sure everything is back to normal.

One more thing… none of this takes into account the many hours of preparation and planning done by paid Chamber of Commerce staff, coordinating the many volunteers and making sure things go smoothly.

Hats off to all the volunteers, to the Chamber staff and the runners. We hope you find this year’s Run New Prague a great time. Thanks to all of you for participating in this event.
