First-timer wins Elysian Rookie's Triathlon

Spencer Syvertson of Paynesville won the 35th annual Elysian Rookie's Triathlon Championship Saturday, July 7.
Specer Syvertson, a 22-year-old graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, who lives in Paynesville, claimed the title in the 35th annual Elysian Rookie's Triathlon Saturday, July 7. Competing in this event for the first time, Syvertson edged previous champions Brett Lovaas and Mike Cahill for the overall championship. Bette Rowley of Burnsville won the women's division for the third time in the last four years. More than 120 individuals competed this year.
