Mr. Nutter was born on November 28, 1937 to Millard and Florence Nutter of Randall, Minnesota.  He attended and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1955 and Mankato State University in 1959.  While at Mankato State he majored in chemistry and biology and minored in mathematics and physics.  He then taught science and math in Palmer, Nebraska and Pine Island, Minnesota from 1959-1964.  Following his teaching years, he was employed as a research chemist for the University of Minnesota at the Hormel Institute in Austin, Minnesota from 1964-1970.  While there he authored and co-authored several papers on lipid analysis which have appeared in several scientific journals.  Following his tenure in Austin, he co-founded Nu-Chek-Prep Inc. in Elysian, Minnesota, a company which produces high purity lipid standards for the worldwide scientific community.  Today his standards are used in laboratories throughout the world.  Many have become the primary source for research facilities everywhere.
His main hobby in life was enjoying the game of golf.  Although he never obtained that elusive hole-in-one, he did enjoy the friendship of many friends while playing golf.  His favorite part of the game was a four man scramble pitting one twosome against another.  He also enjoyed his monthly poker games with his friends of many years, most of which were held at Ed Atherton’s hide-a-way overlooking Lake Francis.
While teaching in Pine Island, he met and married Hilda “Lou” Koehler on May 30, 1964 in a little country church near Madison Lake, Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife, Lou; one son, Brian and his wife Pamela of Elysian; one daughter, Christina Dumitrache of Mankato; one sister, Yvonne and her husband Warren Blomquist of Elysian; and five grandchildren, Payton, Ethan, Brady and Jake Nutter and Trenton Dumitrache.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Florence Nutter.
