TCU sophomore Lexi Marcussen scored a game-high 22 points and added six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a 57-51 Minnesota River Conference win over Lester Prairie Monday, Feb. 13.
Marcussen scored 13 of her points in the second half and she connected on three, three-pointers.
Emma Skluzacek finished with 10 points and three rebounds. Audrey Vosejpka added eight points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
We really did outplay them in just about all statistical categories and the best part was that we worked very hard to get back into this game, take the lead, and more importantly keep it,” head coach Don Marcussen said.
Belle Plaine moved into third place in the conference with a 58-47 win over TCU Friday, Feb. 17.
"We once again really got out to a slow start. Six turnovers in our first nine possessions put us down 15-4 early in this game and we never got back in it,” Marcussen said. “We were not able to put any kind of pressure on the Tigers as they did not have a single turnover in that same stretch and made 6 of their 10 shot attempts. We were able to cut into their lead to get within six points but a couple of bad possessions allowed them to push that lead back to 12 points and making 10 of 15 free throws down the stretch allowed them to seal the win.”
Kaia Krocak scored 12 points and added four rebounds and three blocked shots. Vosejpka added 10 points, eight rebounds, and was 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the second half.
“We knew this game was important for us as we needed the win to finish 3rd in the MRC this year and also wrap up the #4 seed in the Sub-Section and get to host a game. Now we have to wait and see,” Marcussen said.
