Update - Driver dies after medical emergency

UPDATE - Driver Pronounced Dead
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death of Joshua David Bastyr, 34, who had a medical emergency while driving along Chalupsky Avenue SE in New Prague on Thursday, May 30. New Prague Police Chief Jim Gareis said that officers were dispatched to the scene where Bastyr was unresponsive. He was transported from the scene by North Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System Hosptial in New Prague, where he was pronounced dead. According to the report Bastyr’s 2008 Ford pickup truck went up on the sidewalk just past the intersection with Third Street SE into a homeowner’s yard, hit part of a tree and then hit an embarkment, coming to a stop.

The New Prague Police Department is still gathering information about a medical emergency that lead to a truck driving up onto a yard along Chalupsky Avenue SE. It was after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, when police were called to the scene. According to Police Chief Jim Gareis an adult male driver had a medical emergency while southbound on Chalupsky Avenue SE. The driver went up on the sidewalk just past the intersection of Third Street SE into a homeowner’s yard, hit part of a tree and then hit an embarkment, coming to a stop. Chief Gareis said a homeowner in the area came up, shut off the vehicle and called in the incident. Also responding to the scene were North Memorial Ambulance and the New Prague Fire Department. The driver was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague.
