Stephen Arthur Schwichtenberg (Steven or Steve) was born on March 9, 1952, in Faribault, MN, the seventh of eight children of Harold and Mabel (Fratzke) Schwichtenberg. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, and later confirmed his faith at the same church in 1965.
He grew up in the Waterville area and attended and graduated from Waterville-Elysian High School in May of 1970. He was president of his graduating class and was also a member of the Hi Lighters 4-H Club. He later entered the United States Air Force in Minneapolis and was later stationed at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota as well as serving in several different areas, including Okinawa, Japan. He served until April 21, 1976, receiving an honorable discharge.
After military service Steven lived and worked in Southern Minnesota in the construction trade until he moved to Hawaii where he lived on the island of Oahu in the construction business until his death on October 18, 2014. He was never married. He enjoyed his motorcycle and rock music and his circle of friends.
Family members of Steven who have passed away include his parents, Harold and Mabel Schwichtenberg, his sister, Sylvia Krampitz, sisters-in-law, Ruth Schwichtenberg, Rachel Schwichtenberg, and Alice Schwichtenberg, brothers-in-law David Krampitz, Sr., Sylvester Morsching, a niece, Lori Schwichtenberg, nephew-in-law Loren “Curly” Schwartz, and other family members and friends.
Surviving family members include his sister, Carole Morsching and Arlys (and Steve) Olson, brother, Harold (and Barb) Schwichtenberg, Gary Schwichtenberg, Willis Schwichtenberg, and Keith (and Joan) Schwichtenberg, and family friend, Karen Luke, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Steven was cremated and his ashes are interred on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, and a memorial plaque has been placed at the grave of his parents in rural North Morristown. A special committal service with a military color guard and honors was held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in rural North Morristown with family and friends attending.
