Czech Out New Prague draws an ‘amazing’ turnout

The New Prague Chamber of Commerce held its ninth annual Czech Out New Prague Thursday evening, Aug. 7, at Memorial Park and while it was a humid night with temperatures in the 80s, people showed up.

“It was a steamy night and amazing turnout,” said Brooke Sticha, executive director of the New Prague Chamber of Commerce.

There were 60 groups, including vendors, churches, businesses, athletic organizations, non-profits and agencies from the New Prague city government that were represented, said Sticha.

“It went very smoothly. The businesses and others make it what it is,” Sticha said.

“It’s not just coffee mugs and T-shirts,” said Pastor Henry Koch of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church. He noted how there used to be a lot of give-aways of those items. The church had hand fans, plus cookbooks and batteries for smoke detectors.

New Prague Counseling, which offers mental health counseling and therapy, was popular with its face paining. Staff and volunteers dressed as versions of the animated characters the Care Bears in T-shirts and head bands that had ears.
