After less than a year since it formed, the Montgomery Community Foundation is already donating money to make projects happen.
The Foundation made donations to two projects at its Spring Fling Social on Thursday, May 9 at the Rustic Farmer. The first $4,000 went to TCU’s Early Childhood for an outdoor learning area, which will be installed once construction is complete on the building renovations. The second $4,000 went to the Arts and Heritage Center for the restoration of the Montgomery Mural.

After nine innings, the TCU Titans lost by a run to the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants 3-4 on Monday.
TCU’s Ellaina Novak lead off with a single in the second inning and was sacrificed to second by Ava Rud. She advanced to third on a single by Lilly Barnes, then scored on a single by Destiny Dunagan.
The Giants answered in the fourth inning when Liz Milam reached on an error and Olivia Fritz hit a two-run homer.
Ellie Singleton singled to start the sixth inning, scoring on a double by Elly Novak.

Every year at the end of April, the Tri-City United school board decides on a list of teacher contracts to not renew. This year was no different, yet more discussion and disconnect has come from the list as a result.
TCU Superintendent Teri Preisler said the need for non-renewal contracts is highly enrollment driven. If there are fewer students, that means there is need for fewer sections and less teaching staff.

The Titans nabbed an 11-5 win over Waseca despite an early three-run inning on May 7.
The TCU team weathered a scare by Waseca in the second inning where the Titans coughed up three runs. Waseca scored its runs on a double by Zander Fitzsimmons.
The home team captured the lead in the second inning when Dawson Pint’s sac fly scored two runs for TCU.

Talk of larger classroom sizes for the 2019-20 school year came into question at the Tri-City United School board meeting Monday night.
"We have some major concerns about some of the staffing that we're hearing is going to be…and the sections allowed for next year," said parent Lisa Hoefs. "I voted yes for a referendum so that my children could maintain the awesome class sizes that we have. And having more than 26 in a class is very concerning."

Francis (Fran) Paul Kral was born on April 5, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN to Frank and Alvina Kral. He grew up in Montgomery, MN and attended school there. After high school he joined the Army Reserves and farmed for a time before he started to work for Green Giant. In 1973 he was transferred to Denton, TX, where he spent the rest of his life.

Nancy Vollmar, 83, of Montgomery passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at The Lodges in Elko. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jason Pollington officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery.

Sometimes, you just need to laugh. 
I've been a mom for almost a decade now and have seen my kids do things I never knew were possible... like getting mastitis as a newborn, getting stuck in a chair, requiring "super" (fake) teeth because their baby teeth failed to grow in, having the backs of earrings grow INSIDE their earlobes... It's a never-ending list. 
I didn't know how little I knew until I became a mom.
And, honestly, after a rough day or two, I start to question myself.

The New Prague Trojan adapted softball team split a pair of games last week, defeating South Suburban 11-7 and losing to Burnsville/Farmington/Lake ville 9-6.
The team, which includes athletes from New Prague, Tri-City United, Belle Plaine and Jordan schools, was scheduled to play at Minneapolis Tuesday and will host White Bear Lake in its final home game Thursday, May 9. New Prague is on the road for its final two games of the season, at Dakota United in Rosemount Tuesday, May 14, and facing Chaska/Chanahsssen/Prior Lake/Shakopee at Prior Lake Thursday, May 16.

A sold out audience attended the fifth official screening of the documentary “Singin’ in the Grain” at the New Prague High School auditorium on Sunday, May 5. More than 600 people gathered for the movie, which is about Czech heritage and music that covers more than 40 years of the Eddie Shimota Band.

After two weeks of play, only three teams - New Market, St. Patrick and Veseli, are undefeated in the Dakota-Rice-Scott League.
New Market defeated Webster and Prior Lake to go to 3-0, while St. Patrick topped Shakopee and Veseli defeated New Prague. Elko - which plays a partial league schedule - is at 1-0 after defeating Montgomery in its league opener.
The season gets into full swing this week, as 13 games are scheduled over the next seven days.

After public comments and an about-face by a council member, the Lonsdale City Council is reweighing how and when to proceed with a new police department and City Hall project.
"There's really no point at having further discussions tonight. We discussed and that's where it's at," said Mayor Tim Rud to close out the city council special meeting that included public comments by community members on May 1.

After years of alleged closed door practices with its members, murky financial dealings, and anti-democratic processes, which, is the basis of a lawsuit against the Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS), the Receiver appointed by a Le Sueur County judge is shedding light on many of the details of LCHS.

Two sections of Highway 99 in Le Sueur and Rice Counties will be under construction beginning Monday, May 20 for resurfacing, drainage and safety improvements.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Highway 99 from Highway 13 to Highway 21 in Rice County will be detoured to Highway 13 and Highway 21 on Monday, May 20 as crews begin replacing culverts. The detour will remain in place until project completion in October.

Delores M. Sande, age 88 of Faribault, died on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, Faribault.
Funeral services will be held at First English Lutheran Church, Faribault on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Janet White officiating. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Dave Velishek, of Prior Lake, passed away May 2, 2019 at the age of 75.  A visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:30 – 10:45 AM.  All services will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Prior Lake.  Father Tom Walker will preside, and Dave’s grandchildren will act as pallbearers.  Dave will be laid to rest at Credit River Cemetery with military honors provided by the Prior Lake Honor Guard.
