Orville Otto Schultz, 86

Orville Otto Schultz, age 86, of Webster, MN, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023, in his lifelong home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 5, 1937, in Faribault, MN, to Otto F. and Lydia A. (Haust) Schultz and baptized into Christ on June 28, 1937. He was confirmed on June 17, 1951. He attended school at St. John’s Parochial School and New Prague High School. He married Barbara Meinke on December 29, 1962, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster. Orvie was a third-generation dairy and crop farmer, taking over the family farm from his father and grandfather.
In his younger years, Orvie enjoyed league bowling, roller skating and dancing in the local dance halls. When he could take an afternoon away from the farm, he also enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing. After the dairy herd was sold in 2003, Orvie changed his farming to a smaller scale and turned much of his attention to gardening and canning the bounty of his labors. He drove their fifth-wheel camper to Alaska for a 6-week vacation with Barb in 2004. In his retirement, he very much enjoyed taking the grandkids on a week-long summer vacation, teaching them to fish and spending time on the lakes. This yearly trip turned into a week that soon included all five of Orvie’s children and their families.
Orvie is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Barbara; his children LouAnn (Randy) Wagner of Webster, Ellen (Brad) Schiell of Welch, Diane (Ryan) Phelps of Webster, Steve (Michele) Schultz of Webster, and Sandy Kroyer of Lonsdale; 16 grandchildren, Brian (Carly) Wagner, Megan (Nick) Pieper, Amanda (Travis) Sticha, Christopher (Maddie) Schiell, Sarah Schiell, Ashley (Luke) Parson, Hunter (Peyton Schnichels) Novotny, Natalie, Gavin and Darby Phelps, Alexandra (Donovan) Nelson, Andrew Schultz, Clint (Hailee) Deubler, Jacob, Kyle and Emma Kroyer; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Nordis Kendrick and Oda Schultz, sister-in-law BernaDean Schultz, brother-in-law Gary Meinke and nieces and nephew. Orvie was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Lydia (Haust) Schultz, in-laws Emil and Flora Meinke, his brother Elroy Schultz, brothers-in-law Gene Kendrick and Darwin Schultz, one niece and two nephews.
