From the outside looking in, a rematch against Northfield down the road might be just what the New Prague High School football team would order up if it could.
Sadly, for the Trojans, such a possibility is not on the menu for now. They’ll have to live with the 22-19 loss and learn from mistakes that allowed the Raiders to escape Trojans Stadium with a win Friday, Oct. 6.
In the meantime, New Prague will reset its focus on Friday night’s game at Waconia, Oct. 13, 7 p.m. The Wildcats are 2-4 overall, 1-3 against teams in the section. Like New Prague, the Wildcats beat Rochester Century. Waconia lost to Chaska, a team New Prague defeated.
“They are a solid unit with a QB who will throw a good ball but if needed, can take it down and run. We will need to bottle him up and put some pressure on him in the pass game. They have three good receivers and a nice running back. Our focus this week will be to get back to, 1: Do your job, 2: Run to the football and 3: Tackle legs,” said NPHS coach Jacob Norby. “As with their offense, Waconia’s defense is solid and we are going to need to remain focused on establishing an inside and outside run presence so we can get back to keeping defenses off-balance with our pass and screen game. We must continue to find ways to design plays to get our playmakers the ball in (open) space will continue to be a focus for us.”
To return with a win, Norby said his team must block at all positions, enjoy consistent execution and make plays.
