Swimmers are by design aiming to be logging their best times at the end of the season. New Prague’s swimmers pulled off a pair of big wins in the past week, topping Waconia in a dual meet and winning an invitational at Simley.
After yesterday’s dual meet at Chanhassen, Oct. 11, the Trojans will be at the True Team section meet Saturday at Rochester Century High School. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m., New Prague will be at home for its final meet of the season against Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
The Trojans then have time off, preparing for the section meet Nov. 8 in Lakeville and the state meet at the University of Minnesota Nov. 16-17.
Simley invitational
The Trojans dominated the Oct. 6-7 competition, finishing atop the standings with 535 points, well ahead of Hudson (Wis.) with 407, Mounds Park Academy St. Croix with 361 points, Hill-Murray at 283 and Park High School with 250. The rest of the field included the host Spartans, 227; River Falls, 202; Lakes International Land Academy, 28; and Humboldt-Washington, 20.
Ava Bruegger finished second in diving, one of three NPHS divers finishing in the top 10 in the event.
The Trojans (Aspen Schieffer, Payten Schieffer, Carolyn De Luca and Taylor Bassett) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.31.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Ella Lund finished third in 2:07.32. Sophie Bisek took fourth in 2:10.62 and Lorelei Hamre finished 10th in 2:18.63. Nicole Serie finished fifth in 2:19.03.
Payten Schieffer won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.79. De Luca finished third in 2:21.03. Aspen Schieffer finished fifth 2:23.97.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Bassett won in 25.55 seconds. Ava Koloc (27.23 seconds) finished fourth and Georgia Beno (27.86 seconds) finished ninth.
Payten Schieffer won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.80. Ella Lund finished third in 1:03.69.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Bassett cruised to the easy win in 56.03 seconds. Koloc took third in 59.70 seconds. Payton Mayer finished ninth in 1:03.41.
