Le Sueur County Sheriff Mounted Posse’s free Rodeo Fun Night last Friday, June 19, at the county fairgrounds in Le Center had a pleasant evening, narrowly missing severe storms that hampered events from the Twin Cities northward.
    A crowd of more than 500 people showed up to watch all ages compete for the best times in barrel racing, pole bending, mutton bustin’, monkey in a tree, a catalog race, a magic carpet ride race.

    Student athletes from Tri-City United High School’s trapshooting team competed this past weekend in Alexandria for a spot in the Minnesota State High School League’s (MSHSL) Clay Target State Tournament happening on Friday, June 26.
    USA Clay Target League’s Minnesota State High School Clay Target League’s Trap Shooting Tournament, June 15-23, at Alexandria Community and Technical College’s site, is the qualifier for the MSHSL state event. Only the top 40 teams, and top 100 in both boys and girls, move on to the MSHSL state event.

    A nine-year-old state track record has been shattered by a Tri-City United (TCU) quartet of runners.
    The 4 x 200-meter relay team of junior Kaitlyn Hartwig, sophomores Carly Hartwig and Jillian Houn, and eighth grader Cami Hartwig are now the proud owners of the fastest time in Minnesota State history, winning the Class AA State Championship with a time of 1:37.90 at the Class AA State Meet held Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

    Le Sueur County took a step to pump the brakes on data centers being built in the county. At the Board of Commissioners meeting on May 26, the county unanimously passed a one-year moratorium on data center construction.
    The moratorium covers unincorporated areas of Le Sueur County. Cities within the county can still make their own decisions.
    “If a city wants to have a data center, we don’t have any control over that at all,” Commissioner David Preisler said. “If they want to, they’re not affected by this ordinance. They’ve got their own planning and zoning.”

    Tri-City United FFA Area Alumni’s 8th Annual Truck & Tractor Pull at the Le Sueur County Fairgrounds in Le Center had a bit of a hiccup last Friday evening.
    Brian Ceplecha, one of the pull’s committee members, said, “Despite a nearly three-hour delay due to the pulling sled having multiple flat tires on it way up from central Iowa, we got underway at 9:15 p.m. and successfully concluded the event at 2:30 a.m.!

Titans 7 – Randolph 2
    Backed by a pair of home runs and a complete-game pitching performance from Parker O’Malley, TCU kept their postseason alive with a 7-2 victory over the Randolph Rockets on Tuesday evening in Waterville in the Section 2AA consolation bracket.
    The Titans combined a relentless 10-hit attack with flawless defensive play, committing zero errors to lock down the season-saving victory. 

    Tri-City United High School track team members set a record at the Minnesota State High School League’s Class AA State Track and Field Tournament today at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
    The 4x200 meter relay team of Jillian Houn, Carly Hartwig, Cami Hartwig, and Kaitlyn Hartwig ran a 1:37.90, beating the previous Class AA record was 1:39.43 — set by a Monticello team in 2024. They are the 2026 state champs.

    Tri-City United High School’s graduation ceremony on Friday, May 29, was a send off for both graduates and some staff.

    A total of seven Tri-City United (TCU) track and field athletes have advanced to the Class AA State Meet, which will be held Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
    Advancing are juniors Corday Freeman and Kaitlyn Hartwig, sophomores Jillian Houn, Eric Borchardt, and Carly Hartwig, freshman Nyadak Ruei, and eighth grader Cami Hartwig.    

    A number of Tri-City United High School track members qualified for state tournament this week. Eric Borchardt (200 meter dash), Kaitlyn Hartwig (200 meter dash), Carly Hartwig (200 meter dash); Kaitlyn Hartwig, Cami Hartwig, Carly Hartwig, and Jill Houn (4x200 meter and 4x100 meter), Cami Hartwig (long jump), Nyadak Ruei (high jump), and Corday Freeman (shot put). 

    It was a bad day for clay pigeons and a great day for the Tri-City United High School trap shooting squads. 
    A total of 22 five-person squads from 12 area schools participated in the 4th Annual Montgomery Sportsmen’s Club High School Trap Shoot Invitational on Saturday, May 16, at the Montgomery range on the south end of town. The weather was very pleasant with sunshine and the breeze behind shooters’ backs.

    Tri-City United High School Principal Alan Fitterer announced his retirement at January’s with a letter to the board and superintendent. The principal has spent the last 20 years with the district, starting in 2006 when it was Montgomery-Lonsdale High School.
    Fitterer graduated from Mankato East High School in 1985, where he participated in football (wide receiver/tight end), basketball (captain), baseball (centerfielder), student council (president), and National Honor Society, and was a class officer and took part in the Minnesota Male Teen Competition.

    Although the regular season didn’t progress as seamlessly as planned, New Prague’s cooperative indoor softball team won a berth in the state tournament Wednesday, May 6, with a big win over Anoka in the league playoffs.

    The Tri-City United softball team won three of their four games last week, all against Big South Conference opponents.
    They opened the week on Monday, May 4 with an 8-7 loss to Fairmont. The following afternoon the Titans defeated Waseca, 11-1, in five innings. The week ended with TCU sweeping a doubleheader from Marshall, winning 9-8 in eight innings in the first game and 10-8 in the second game.
    TCU improved to 8-5 overall with the three straight wins and are now 6-5 in the conference (4th place overall).

    The Tri-City United Schools $39.99 million proposed capital bond that was put up for a special election on Tuesday, May 12, was again rejected by the voters in the district. 
    Slightly more voters showed up for this election, voting 1,055 (48.5%) in support of the bond and 1,120 (51.5%) not in support of the bond.
