Rodney L. Busch, age 63, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital, Rochester.
Joan A. Hruby, age 78, of Shakopee, died peacefully with her family at her side at her home on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Joan was born on January 31, 1944 in New Prague to Daniel and Ludmilla (Marek) Tikalsky, Sr. She grew up in New Prague, attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, graduated from New Prague High School, attended two years at Mankato State College, and attended St. Catherine’s College. Joan married Edward J. Hruby on November 15, 1966 at St.

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, Richard E. Parks, age 78, of New Prague, died peacefully at his daughter’s home with his family at his side after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Richard was born on February 1, 1944 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Leonard W.
Arnold J. Smisek, age 93, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side at his home on Friday, October 7, 2022. Arnold was born on September 25, 1929 in Forest Township, Rice County, MN to Edward J. and Julia (Trnka) Smisek. He graduated from New Prague High School, attended Dunwoody Institute, and then entered the US Navy, where he served as an electrician aboard the USS Currier in the Korean War. He married Mary M. Maus, the woman who would become his treasured best friend for the rest of his life on June 9, 1956 at Sts.
New Prague Area Schools held its Hall of Fame ceremony the evening of Thursday, Oct. 6, at the New Prague High School auditorium. The annual St. Wenceslaus Catholic School Marathon fundraising event was a smashing success on Saturday, Oct. 1. The school’s goal was to raise $55,000, and the end result was a whopping $65,000. The school uses these funds to fulfill its budget expenses throughout the academic year.
The New Prague Fire Department’s volunteer firefighters gave back to the community it serves with an open house on Sunday, Oct. 2. People attending could enjoy a pancake breakfast with sausages, pastries and beverages. Children and youngsters could try on firefighter’s gear or try their hand at aiming of the fire hoses. The warm fall day was a perfect one for the open house. People could also watch the North Memorial Air Ambulance land and tour the helicopter.
The New Prague girls swimming and diving team had a record setting performance in their 99-71 victory over St. Louis Park Thursday, Sept. 29.
Payten Schieffer broke her own school record in the 100- yard freestyle by almost a second, recording a winning time of 55.08.
The New Prague football team gave the pyrotechnics crew a workout last Friday night at Trojan Stadium, as the fireworks team was responsible for setting off a barrage of fireworks after every score. The Trojans crushed Rochester John Marshall 55-6 before a packed stadium in this year’s Homecoming game.
The game was back and forth early, as a scoreless first quarter went by quickly. The Trojans ended a promising 12-play drive inches short on fourth down at the Rockets’ 15 yard line, and the Rockets punted after controlling the ball for several minutes of their own.
The General Election is on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022. New Prague city residents will vote in the gym at the Fitness & Aquatic Center at 410 Central Ave. N. The polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 7, 11 am, with a time of gathering, 9:30-10:45 am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Jordan. Interment at St. John Calvary Cemetery.
