The Tri-City United (TCU) baseball team went 1-2 in three games last week and are now 4-5 on the season overall and 3-3 in the Big South Conference.

With a new book on the New York Times Best Sellers list, Kate Swenson spoke at the Montgomery Public Library on April 15 about the subject matter near and dear to her heart.
Swenson’s new book, “Autism Out Loud,” was released April 1. For the week of April 20, it sits at number 10 on the New York Times Best Seller list under Nonfiction (print and e-book combined). In addition to her, it was co-authored by Carrie Cariello and Adrian Wood.
The small crowd who came to listen to Swenson talk consisted mainly of parents of autistic children.

Mamie Katherine (Kopet) Knish was called into God’s loving embrace on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, surrounded by her family at Central Health Care.
 She was born on February 17, 1931, to parents James Frank and Johanna Marie (Trcka) Kopet in Montgomery Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and attended Catholic school in Montgomery. Mamie was a graduate of the Class of 1948 from Montgomery High School.

The two-vehicle crash on Thursday, April 10, at the intersection of Le Sueur County Roads 3 and 28 appears to be because of a failure to stop, according to the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
A 911 call came in at 4:18 p.m. for the crash. The incident report states that Aiden Stravens, 21, of Elko New Market, was driving south in his 2019 Mazda 3 on Le Sueur County Road 3 and either failed to yield to the right-of-way or stop at the stop sign at County Road 28.

Tri-City United (TCU) pitcher Claire Hoefs allowed only two hits and struck out eight batters in a 13-0 win over Waseca Tuesday, April 15.
Hoefs pitched one of her top games of the season in leading the Titans to the Big South Conference win and her team’s fifth straight victory. She walked only two batters and improved to 2-0.
Laynee Blaschko was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a triple. Cristina Cruz was four times. Anne Cooper was 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. The Titans walked nine times.

According to the Montgomery Messenger, the first local Grand Marshal of the Kolacky Day festivities was 98-year-old Metej J. David, Le Sueur County’s oldest resident. The article went onto say, “Grandpa Dave” was one of Montgomery’s pioneer Czech settlers and was still able to lead a relatively active life in spite of his advanced age.” Since then many great men and women have received this cherished honor!

This year’s Drive Your Tractor to School Day brought 21 tractors parading downtown Montgomery on Friday, April 11, three less than last year.
Donuts and milk were served at the 7 a.m. gathering location on the south end of Montgomery across from Dollar General. “We want them here and off the road before the busses are out,” said TCU FFA Advisor and Ag Teacher Michael Reeser.

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, and I’m writing today to celebrate someone who has spent the last four years supporting our students.As an AmeriCorps member with Math Corps, April Iverson has focused on providing Montgomery area students with extra practice and support to improve their math skills. Over the past four years, she has given a total of 3,375 hours to help students succeed!

Three stylists moved to a new location in the former Marek Law Office building at 205 1st Street South from Pincurls Salon. The building became vacated at the end of June 2024 when the two brothers, William and Scott Marek, retired after 50 years from the law business.

The Tri-City United boys and girls golf teams opened their 2025 season with a triangular at Springfield Friday, April 4.
The Titan boys tied for first with Springfield with a scored a 178.
The Titan girls placed second with a score of 261.
Boys varsity individual results (overall): Eian O'Keefe - 1st, Eli Krautkramer - 4th, Caleb Schultze - tied for 5th, Trenton Pelowski tied for 7th, Eddie Alonso - 9th, and Carter Beulke - tied for 12th.

The Tri-City United girls track and field team won five individual events on their way to a team championship at the Belle Plaine Tiger Invitational Friday, April 4.
The Titans scored 117 points in placing first among the five teams entered. Belle Plaine placed second (90), Jordan third (84), Delano fourth (55), and Mayer Lutheran fifth (22).
Winning individual events included sophomore Kaitlyn Hartwig, senior Khloe Flicek, freshman Carly Hartwig, and freshman Jillian Houn.

Montgomery Messenger Sports like football, wrestling, and weightlifting are thought of as male-dominated sports in the United States. The numbers still show that they are still a boys club but they also show that girls are taking an increasing interest in those sports. In fact, girls have been taking more interest in sports overall over the past few decades.

To the residents and property owners of the City of Montgomery. I’d like to take a moment to thank all of you that were able to attend at least one of the town hall sessions and/or reached out to city council, staff, or myself for additional information or feedback. Most sessions were well attended, residents shared their thoughts and your voices were heard.

With the looming need for street and utilities infrastructure and some major city facilities, mainly a new fire hall to meet requirements and to hold all equipment, residents at the three town halls held last month tended to have the sentiments of wanting the needed improvements, but do so in a fiscally responsible manner that doesn’t burden them with too high of taxes.

The Tri-City United High School’s spring play this weekend is actually a collection of nine plays called “The Bullying Collection,” written by a series of authors that were asked to write a 10-minute play based on their take on bullying.
