Dale William Benson passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the age of 59. Dale was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 15, 1959.  
Dale was born to parents Elinore (Lynn) and William (Bill) Benson. He married Vicki Benson on August 11, 1979. They have two children: Son, Kaleb (Cassie) Benson and granddaughter, Kendra Benson; daughter, Krystle (Shawn) Bloch and grandsons, Viktor, Thor, and granddaughter, Vivian. Dale and Vicki lived in Montgomery, MN until Dale was diagnosed with cancer.  After that time they moved to the hunting shack in McGrath, MN.

The New Market Muskies were the last Dakota-Rice-Scott baseball team to bow out of the State Amateur Baseball Tournamet, but they didn't go down easily. The Muskies tied Young America late in regulation before falling to the Cardinals in 14 innings, 4-3. the quarterfinal game was played Sunday afternoon in Shakopee
In the semifinals in Shakopee Sunday evening, Sobieski defeated Young America 2-1 and Plato downed defending state champion Kimball 12-5. 
Sobieski and Plato are scheduled to play at 3 p.m. Monday at New Prague for the State Class C Championship. 

New Prague could not come up with the timely hit and lost its State Class C Tournament third round game to the Kimball Express 2-0 Saturday, Sept. 1, in New Prague. 
Nathan Sprouls pitched six innings and allowed just six hits while striking out 11, but one of those hits was a solo home run in the fifth inning that put the defending state champions on top 1-0. The Express also scored a run in the seventh off reliever Johnny Houston. Justin Novak had two hits for the Orioles. 

The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Tournament will conclude this weekend with games at three sites, New Prague, Shakopee and Jordan. 

Champions in Class B and Class C will be crowned on Monday, Sept. 3, with the Class B championship game or games scheduled for noon in Shakopee. The Class C Championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. in New Prague. 

Helen Keogh, 89, of Montgomery, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Mala Strana Health Care in New Prague. 
 
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery from 9 to 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Macular Degeneration Association.
 

The Tri-City United Titan Football Team opened its season by shutting out the Belle Plaine Tigers 15-0 in Montgomery.
 
The  Titan defense had a spectacular performance and held the Tigers to one interception at the end, three turnovers on downs, and six punts in the game.
 
The Titan offense put themselves on the board in the first quarter on their second possession when Matthew Bartholomew handed off to Kyle Sladek for a touchdown. Sladek added a successful two-point conversion that put the score at 8-0. 
 

Three of four Dakota-Rice- Scott baseball teams won their second round games at the State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, in New Prague and Shakopee.
St. Patrick played on Saturday in Shakopee and lost 4- 3 to Red Wing. The other three teams, playing consecutive games on Sunday in New Prague, all claimed wins to advance to the tournament’s final weekend. New Market defeated Fort Ripley 4-3, New Prague beat Hanska 3-0 and Faribault defeated Mora 8-0.

Kubes, Joseph John, age 78 of Webster, passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2018 of natural causes.  Survived by his wife, Emma; children, Laura (Bob) Smisek, Joe (Karen), John, and Jeff (Carrie); grandchildren, Anna, Bobby, Joey (Joy), Kaylee, Jeffrey, and Angie; siblings, Nancy (Joe) Trnka, Bob (Betty), and Roger (Joy); also by other loving relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli, MN.

An overturned semi truck closed both the north and southbound lanes of State Highway 13/21 on Tuesday morning.
 
The single-vehicle accident happened around 9 a.m. at the intersection of 320th Street and Highway 13/21, north of the Lakeside Supper Club and south of Le Sueur County Road 28. Montgomery Police and the New Prague Fire Department are on the scene. Injuries are unknown at this time.

Richard L. Deutsch, age 86, of New Prague, died peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Monday, August 27, 2018 at his home.  Richard was born on May 17, 1932 in Helena Township, Scott County to John and Marie “Mary” (Wampach) Deutsch.  He attended St. Benedict Parochial School and graduated from New Prague High School.  He was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean War and was one of six who typed up the armistice agreement for the end of the war.  Richard married Phyllis M. Glisczinski on October 13, 1962 at St.

Three of four DRS baseball teams advanced to the round of 16 at the Minnesota Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament over the weekend.
 

If it seems like back to school is early this year, you’re right. 
 
Area schools started on Monday, Aug. 27 instead of after Labor Day. TCU Superintendent Teri Preisler said the decision was due to the voter-approved construction projects happening throughout the district.
 
“We are starting the school year a week early and ending this school year earlier in order to extend the amount of time next summer for school construction projects,” Preisler wrote in an email message to parents last week. 
 

Viola Mae Wondra, 90, of Montgomery, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. 
 
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Schoenbauer Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with visitation one hour prior at the church. Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Interment will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Tractors, new and antique functioning motors of all shapes and sizes aren't the only things happening at Pioneer Power. The show is also hosting historical construction equipment, antique trucks and food. The 45th annual show is also featuring music throughout the weekend, including that of the James Busta Band. There is also a Parade of Equipment, tractor pull, and an ecumenical church service. The parade of equipment is Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. each day. See more in the print edition.
