Busy, beautiful days for Lonsdale’s annual event
Area residents took full advantage of the event-filled day on Saturday at Lonsdale Community Days.
Spot on pitching and an 11-run first inning led to the Tri-City United baseball team’s first win of the season in their home opener over Mayer Lutheran Monday in Le Center.
“They did a lot of things well,” said Titan’s coach Bruce Davis after the game. “They set a tone and came out ready to play. Overall it was very, very positive.”
The Titan pitching was lead by ace starter Kody Glende, who Davis said he believes is the best pitcher in the conference. “He came out focused and did everything I asked of him and more,” Davis said of Glende.
Minnesota’s annual Miss Czech Slovak pageant will be held on Saturday, April 13 at the American Legion Club in Montgomery.
The 30th annual pageant that encourages and promotes the heritage, culture and traditions of the Czechs and Slovaks in Minnesota will be held at the American Legion Club. The evening includes a public reception, ethnic dinner, pageant and dance.

After torturing us with a miserable February with cold and A LOT of snow, you eased up in March and melted your frozen winter rage that flooded many of our homes and fields.
In April, you graced us with beautiful spring weather. Last weekend, you teased us and tipped the thermometer with 70-degree days! Thank you!
However, today, Wednesday, April 10, for whatever reason, you are freezing us out again and squeezing the clouds with more snow!

Henry Joseph Simon, 84, of Montgomery, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Mala Strana Health Care in New Prague.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with visitation one hour prior at the church. Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
Earl W. Miller, 91, of Faribault, MN, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Faribault Senior Living.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Kilkenny, MN.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Earl Walter was born on July 5, 1927, on his family’s farm in McGregor, Iowa to Carl and Marguerite (Zahn) Miller. He graduated from McGregor High School with the class of 1944.
Laila “Bunny” Schroeder, 88, of Shakopee, passed away on April 2 at Friendship Manor in Shakopee.
Private services will be held in Laila’s hometown of Jackson, MN.
Bunny was born on May 25, 1930, to Robert and Catherine (Willis) Grantz in Jackson, MN. She went to Jackson High School.
Alice M. Cemensky, 93, of Lexington, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Visitation will be on Monday, April 8 from 4-8pm at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, April 9 at 10:30 am with visitation one hour prior at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Judge Mark Vandelist has had enough of Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS).
Vandelist, who is overseeing the lawsuit between several plaintiffs and LCHS, slammed the society on Wednesday because it failed to follow his orders. He appointed a high profile attorney from Minneapolis as a Receiver to take control of the society, right the course and make sure the society does as he orders.
Le Sueur County Sheriff Brett Mason reports that on March 27, 2019, Leonard Elmore Beatty III, 61, of rural Montgomery was arrested after Investigators from the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force and Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, executed a search warrant as part of an investigation related to the possession and dissemination of child pornography.
Grace C. Dobmeier, 72, of Montgomery, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Visitation will be Saturday, April 6 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. with Father Victor Valencia officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Catholic Cemetery in rural Montgomery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
Grace was born on June 30, 1946, in New Prague to John and Mary (Simota) Pomije. Grace graduated from New Prague High School.
A feature documentary tracing life in Minnesota’s “Czech Country” (Montgomery, New Prague, Veseli, Lonsdale), 40 years in the making, will have its world premiere on Saturday, April 6, at the Minneapolis /St.Paul International Film Festival, St. Anthony Main Theater, 125 Main St. SE, in Minneapolis at 2 p.m. The documentary is called “Singin' in the Grain.” It features footage from Montgomery's classic and contemporary Kolacky Days festivals, New Prague's Dozinky Festival, and the Veseli Ho- Down.

The eggs-citement at this year’s annual Egg Hunt was about more than racing for an egg.
It was about what prizes were inside of the eggs.
“There was money in the eggs, coupons for stuffed animals, candy,” said Connie White Tupy, who has spearheaded the local community egg hunt for the last seven years.

Visitation will be Friday, March 29 from 9am to 11am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11am with Father George Grafsky officiating. Interment will be held at St. Michael Cemetery in rural Montgomery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to a Chemical Dependency- Depression/ Suicide program.
UPDATE - March 26
The workers have removed and cleaned all mail and packages from the New Prague Post Office, and they have either been sent for delivery or are now available for pickup.
Cleanup at the New Prague Post Office continues. Kristy Anderson, a spokesperson for the postal service, said the New Prague Post Office is expected to reopen sometime this week, possibly as early as Thursday.
